Weight Loss Can Be Torture Or Easy

Most of us on this planet have to think of our weight at some point. It is to bad that usually when we do it is after we have gained so many pounds that it takes a while to get them off. Some of us panic and want to lose it all overnight. You might have a special occasion to go to and find that your clothes you want to wear don't fit anymore. Or maybe someone says to you something like, "You look like you have been eating good".

There is a solution. It is not as hard as most people make it out to be. It does not have to be torturous either. In fact it should not be a struggle to lose weight and get healthy. Weight loss is a combination of mind, spirit, and common sense. When you panic is when it becomes hard and a chore. It took many years for me to figure that out. It wasn't until I was between diets, or weight loss plans that I did. I found that just using common sense and not overeating took the pounds off.

I do not want to make this sound too simple though. It actually isn't. Like I said it took me many years of weight loss plans to learn this. Those plans taught me how to eat properly. I should say some of them did. Most of them cut off the foods my body needed to function properly. Sure they took off some unwanted pounds, but it was a slow torture and of course my body needed the nourishment and nutrients of those foods, so after a while I craved those foods and gained the weight right back.

You have heard this before, but it is the honest to god's truth. A well balanced diet and exercise. Not all of us think of that the same way though and it is not that simple either. That is not a simple thing unless you go about it in the right way. You and I are different. So is every one on this planet. You have a different life style and activities than I do.

This is the first thing you need: A plan. You also need some guidance. It is much easier to accomplish a task with a little help and support. The plan is to become healthy and feel better. If you eat right and add a helping of some physical activities you will accomplish that.

Eating right is a matter of eating everything you like in all the food groups. You need to cut back on the saturated fats, eat 3 meals a day, and snack between the meals. Add in a little exercise and you will be on the right track. It will take a while to change your routine though. You should not try to do it overnight. It has to be learned and your mind and body have to process the new way of life. Like I said earlier you need a plan. The plan is to become healthy and feel better. To accomplish this you need to cut back on your calorie intake and burn more calories a day than you consume. Your fuel to do this is a mixture of the right carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. You need all of those for your body to function properly. Too much or too little and your body will not run at the optimal speed to achieve you goal. Your mind plays a big part also, so you need to make sure your carbohydrates are at the right level because they play a major part in fueling your brain. You are almost like a car. A car needs oil, spark, fuel, and water to run properly. You need carbohydrates, proteins, fats, nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and water to run properly.

So what you need to do is figure out what your proper levels are. In other words, what is the proper calorie intake for your body weight, height, age and sex. There are calculators on a few sites that will help you with this. Mine will even tell you the proper levels of fat, protein, and carbohydrates you need. Of coarse they are not completely accurate but will be close, depending on the amount of muscle and exercise you do on any given day. Then with that number, and a good chart of what the food calories per serving are you can cut your intake one to two hundred calories below that number.

A pound is 3500 calories. If you lower your intake of calories by a little each day, and throw in a little extra activity each day, a pound a week is good, you might even burn off 2. Slowly is the best way to maintain and stick with a weight loss plan or diet. I like to think of it as a new way of life.

Weight loss is not just about eating less or eating right, or even about an exercise program. There are four basic components to weight loss that determine the level of success.

1. The mind set.

2. The lifestyle.

1. The Mind Set.

First off, one must develop the right mind set. Think of the journey as a pleasant trip with a rewarding goal at the end. Thinking of weight loss as a chore, a task or even a prison sentence puts a negative connotation on all related activities. Make the journey fun and enjoyable. Add some music to your activity, take your iPod along when going for a run or bike ride. Join a recreational center with a gym and a pool. Make new friends who share the same interest. All of a sudden it's no longer a task that must get done, it turns into an enjoyable time with friends. A positive attitude will definitely boost you fat loss effort.

2. The Life Style.

Losing weight and keeping it off requires a change to one's lifestyle, obviously the current lifestyle is not working so well and by now you are desperate to lose weight. It's time to get back to basics. Stop snacking on chips, Candy bars, popcorn drenched in butter. Start snacking more on fruits and veggies. Start with 2 servings a day and work your way up to 10 servings a day. Each serving can be the size of your fist. Go for the fiber-rich fruits and veggies (organic if possible). Stay clear of alcohol, it has sugar. Sodas and sports drinks are just liquid sugar, avoid them like the plague. Earlier we talked about a change in lifestyle? 4. The Exercise.

Get your runners on and go for a brisk walk, not a Sunday stroll around the neighborhood. Each day walk a little further, try to work up a sweat. These walks will help you burn calories and they will begin to build your cardiovascular endurance. Think of joining the neighborhood fitness center, there you'll find different ways to lose weight. At the center you can make some new friends who share similar interest. The distraction will help you take your mind of the main reason you are there.

Easy Weight Loss Plan

The Calorie Shifting Diet is an easy weight loss plan. So even making it a regular thing to walk to and from work (or get off the bus or train ten minutes from work/home for the same effect), regularly using the stairs instead of the lift, or getting out at lunchtime for a brisk stroll, will all contribute to keeping that weight off.

Another of the best dieting tips that you might also consider is investing in a good pair of digital scales. Digital scales are now much more accurate that the old 'wobbly finger' dial type, and if you use the same scales regularly you will get a fairly accurate 'snap-shot' of your progress. Naturally you do not want to make weighing yourself become an obsession, but 'weighing-in' a couple of times a week can be quite a good idea,. Bear in mind that you will weigh heaviest at the end of the day (most likely, due to food and liquid intake) and lightest in the morning just after waking, due to the dehydration you will experience overnight. So be sure to weigh yourself in the same place (same floor surface, that is), with the same scales, wearing similar light (or no!) clothes, and at the same time of day to get the best idea of what is going on.

It can also be quite fun, and motivating, if your scales also provide a body fat analysis. Weight and body-fat monitors are now quite economical to buy. They use a small electric current from an ordinary battery to measure body fat (so, note, if you have a pace maker or other electronic health support you should NOT use these scales unless a doctor has categorically said it is OK to do so). The interesting aspect of the body-fat monitor that you may well see a downward trend in fat, even when your weight is not reducing. This is generally a good thing, of course, because it implies you are developing lean muscle through exercising. It can be a reassurance that if you 'hit a plateau' and appear to stop losing weight for a while, as many dieters experience, you will know that this is because you are getting leaner, and fitter IF your body-fat percentage is still dropping. Good muscle strength is also critical to reducing pain and wear and tear on joints so the benefits of exercise are multiplied.

When it comes to the dieting plan that you adopt there are also some key things to bear in mind if you want to avoid losing weight then gaining it again just as quickly. One of the important dieting tips is not to be tempted to skip meals. Dieters are often try 'skipping' breakfast, but this can be a real mistake as it leads to low-blood sugars by mid morning which can give rise to cravings for sugary snacks! A couple of unplanned, small but 'calorie intense' snacks in a day can put paid to any benefit your dieting plan might have offered. So be sure to eat breakfast, and then eat up to six small meals spaced evenly through the day, rather than larger meals at longer intervals. Smaller meals are easier on the digestion and more readily metabolized. If you should get 'hunger pangs' then be sure to try drinking a glass of still mineral water first. Research has shown that thirst is often mistaken for hunger and a glass of 'calorie free' water may just satisfy the real need your body has -- hydration!

The small meals strategy makes the food you eat easier for your body to handle. In fact human biologists know that digestion is one of the most demanding processes the body undertakes and. In effect 'digestion' is part of the 'aging' process. But it can take a while to get used to small portions. It is tempting to return for 'seconds' and undo your good intentions. Naturally, if you are genuinely hungry you may meed to work at the small meals strategy for a while. But a final tip for successful dieting is always to let the first portion 'go down', by allowing say a good 10 minutes after finishing it, before considering a second helping. Often this allows the full 'satisfying' effect of the first portion to be registered by the stomach where chemical messages are sent to the brain to confirm that hunger has abated. This way you can 're-educate' your body and establish new healthier eating patterns.

Ultimately though, all the dieting tips in the world will have little effect without a little will power, and motivation. You have to want to achieve the weight loss, and it helps to know it will benefit you in so many ways. Conquer Emotional Eating and Stop Wrecking Your Life

To conquer emotional eating is the secret to stop wrecking your life for every time you go to put on your clothes, the uncomfortable reminder of those excess pounds is there like a wrecking ball flying through space and hitting you square in the stomach. But what do you do when that ice cream sundae cries for consumption? And the little voice inside your head asks, "What's one more ice cream cone going to hurt? After all, you haven't had that much to eat today!"

Then there's that other little voice that mumbles, "you're not really serious about losing weight," and leaves a deposit of some guilt for future put downs.

The internal argument is totally about the ice cream cone and nothing about what's going on emotionally. And what's going on emotionally is totally what the ice cream is all about.

What might the emotional factor be? It could be any number of things and it's usually connected with events in one's life that works out the way we desire them to or not.

Yes, when the job gets done to your satisfaction or when you hear good news from home you're likely to feel happy and accomplished and notice an empty spot in your stomach crying for the satisfaction of a treat.

And yes, when your supervisor criticizes you for a job not so well done or you get bad news from home-the third time your son has been in the principle's office-you're likely to feel frustrated and unappreciated and also notice an empty spot in your stomach crying for the satisfaction of a treat.

Whichever happens the same result is realized in that the empty feeling gets all the attention and the feelings of happiness and or frustration gets ignored. Yet, it's dealing with the happiness and or frustration that are key to leaving food and the empty feeling in the stomach out of the mix. Instead food is used to dilute these feelings.

But, what do you do with happiness and the feeling of accomplishment? And what do you do with the feelings of frustration and being unappreciated? You sell them out for food and they are skimmed over like skimming a flat stone on a pond-they eventually sink disappear beneath the surface of the pond and join the hundreds or thousands of others stones already there building a mountain under the surface.

Tony Robbins in his Get the Edge Program suggests that there are up to ten different reasons for each emotion that you feel and he proposes a plan to analyze each of them to get at the bottom of them and how you handle them. However, this may be highly impractical because electrons travel in the brain at the speed of light and by the time you begin to analyze, the flat stone is half way across the pond.

First, it's important to recognize that we are emotional beings and rather than do something with emotions it's more important to ask yourself a simple question, "Can I let it be that something did or didn't work out as anticipated?" If you can let it be, you can let it be and there is no resultant emotion. However, often times before you can think to ask this question, the flat rock is already in hand and the emotion is there.

Instead of throwing that flat stone, the answer is to ask yourself, "Can I let it be that I feel (the emotion)?" Focus on the feeling-good or bad-with the knowledge that when you allow you to feel the feeling, it goes away. Celebrate the joy or happiness or learn from the frustration, for as Tony Robbins also says, "Frustration is a call to action."

Whichever it may be, feel it and the feeling/s disappear, the flat stone returned to the ground and food is forgotten.

When the emphasis is on food, all you get is guilt instead of an opportunity to celebrate joy or be called to action to handle a problem.

An effective approach to conquer emotional eating involves asking important questions "What is missing here? Why are you not getting the results you've been promised?" It is clearly insane to keep dieting when the results are so poor. It's more important to gain a grasp on how to stop emotional eating--eating emotional stress than it is to read the scale. Besides focusing on the scale doesn't empower you to be a better more enlightened person, whereas learning how to overcome emotional eating empowers you in all aspects of your life. If you're a sales person, you'll be a better sales person. If you're an assembly line worker, you'll be a better assembly line worker; a mother, a better mother... Overall, you'll build self worth and find that what you really want to eat is far more nutritious and less in quantity than you ever before imagined possible.

Walk Your Way to a Thinner You

When most people hear the word exercise, they think that they will either have to buy the latest video, or get a gym membership. But exercising does not only consist of those components. A simple and very enjoyable exercise is walking.

Walking is very easy and convenient and it will not cost you a penny, lest of course a good pair of walking shoes. And what is even greater about walking is that you can get the whole family involved in the walking exercise.

All it takes to begin is to start with 30 minutes a day and you can be on your way to becoming a thinner you. Here are some tips to get you on your way to walking. Try and commit yourself to a 30 walking plan. This will give you enough time to see the benefits of walking.
Now that you have made a commitment to stick to walking for about 30 minutes each day let's add some more things to get you accomplishing your goal.

•Get some comfortable walking shoes. Do not start your walking program in your flip-flops. Grab some shoes that are ideal for walking and will not leave you with blisters and pain.

•Start practicing walking more instead of taking the elevator or parking too close to your destination. If you get into the habit of doing this, soon it will become second nature to you.

•If at all possible, get a buddy. A buddy will be a great way to give you some company and get you to stay on your course. A buddy can be a family member, a friend or even the whole family member. Anyone that will get you out there is a good buddy to have.

•It is always a good idea to reward yourself when you have done well. So after a week of walking, give yourself a foot massage or footbath. You can get one of these at your local drug store.

•You will to stay positive and committed to make this happen. Set a time that you will walk everyday. And as you are winding down to that time because to close what you are doing. Stick to the time and if let your family know so that they will not schedule you for chores around this time.

•If you do not have a buddy to walk with you or you prefer to go it alone so that you will stay focus, then get some jazzy music. High pulsing and upbeat music is a good friend and it will give you some pep in your step and keep you motivated to do that 30 minutes.

•Keep committed. Some days will be easier than others. But on your down days, just keep moving, once you move out of the I-don't-feel-like-it-today mood you will begin to feel better and you will be glad that you stayed and did not return home.

Walking is a fun thing to do especially in the summer when the sun is out and everything seems so beautiful. Go out, have fun and lose weight while doing it.

Most of us just do not realize how much we are ruled by our emotions. And most might not even realize that they are emotional eater. An emotional eater is someone who eats not because he or she is hungry but because the emotion dictates so. If you are feeling stressed, bored, depressed then you reach for something to eat, then that mean that you are not listening to your stomach but rather your emotions.

The Problem

The sad truth about emotional eaters is that they are sabotaging their bodies because most emotional eaters do not eat healthy when they are stressed. You usually go for foods that are high in calories, sugar, fat all of which leads to obesity and overeating.

The problem arises because most people do not even know that they have a problem. And if you don't know that you have a problem then you cannot set a cure in place. The first thing that has to be accessed is you an emotional eater? You will have to watch yourself and the next time that you get some distressing news, or you are angry, sad, depressed, you will have to notice that you head straight to the kitchen.

Keeping a journal is a good way to determine if you are an emotional eater. In your journal you want to write what you eat and how you were feeling before and after you eat a particular food. All of these actions will send you off to the vending machine to get something not because you are hungry but simple to calm your stress level down.

The biggest reason why most people can't lose weight is because their bodies have adapted to a certain amount of calories, and when this process happens it causes your metabolism to slow down significantly and weight loss is almost impossible. This is the problem with most of the available weight loss programs.

It is for this reason that people who go on starvation based diets only lose pounds for the first couple weeks, and then they get to a point known as a "plateau" which is a where their body adapts to the severely low amount of calories and all the weight loss comes to a complete stop. The other big problem with this type of dieting is that your metabolism will be alot slower after dieting and you will gain all the weight back eventually.

To lose weight permanently you mustn't allow your body to adapt to a specific level of calories daily, otherwise your metabolism will begin to slow down and you will cease losing weight. This also applies to eating a certain amount calories at the same time each day, so in order to avoid this problem you must never consume the exact same size breakfast, lunch and dinner each day.
To better understand this idea of dieting, you should always keep your body off-balance by doing these two simple things:

1. Always eat a different total amount of calories daily. As an example, one day you might consume 2000 calories, then the next day you will only consume 1800 calories. The third day you would consume 1600 calories. On the fourth day you would consume 1400 calories and on the fifth day you would consume 2000 calories again.

2. You also need to change the total amount of calories consumed at each meal (This is so that your body won't get used to eating the same size breakfast, lunch and dinner).

For example, one day you might decide to eat a large breakfast and then a medium sized lunch followed by a small dinner. Then, the day after you might decide to eat a small breakfast, a large lunch followed by a medium sized dinner.

As you can now see, your body won't be allowed to adapt to eating a certain number of calories at any one meal, as well as not allowing your body to adapt to any one amount of total calories each day.

Sounds great right? Well, it can be possible but you have to make some sacrifices for that. Until the age of 20, your body is very energetic and so it burns a lot faster the fat your body takes in with those Big Macs. I know you look at those young women that can eat everything and still look like models and think that something is fishy. I'm sure you realize it's not worth it!
